Executive Summary
The objective of the report was to explore the planning of training and development of staffs at HBOS (York) the management of employees and their performance and the planning of work allocation.
The analysis found that HBOS give importance to the training and development of their employees as they have measures in place to monitor and develop the workforce. The training needs of staffs are identified and training programmes are developed to suit the learning styles of each individual. Performance management measures are in place to monitor the development of staff. HBOS have also provided relevant resources for personal development which employees are encouraged and motivated to develop themselves by managers to increase the skill base of the workforce. The training and development of staff relates to the allocation of work as staffs have to posses the relevant skills, knowledge and abilities to carry out the work they are expected to do. HBOS have effective work planning in force to enable staff to carry out their daily duties which they are able to do. The allocation of work is vital for the company as staff have to meet the needs of their team, customers and work towards meeting the objectives of the organisation.
Introduction
Good planning is the single factor which makes an organisation, team, individual or project more successful than the next. Planning is the most important of all management functions. (CIPD 2009)
Background information of HBOS:
HBOS is a major UK company. The Group provides retail, business and corporate banking, and insurance and investment services through its multi-brand strategy in the UK and internationally.

HBOS was created following the merger of Bank of Scotland and Halifax in September 2001, which resulted in the group having the biggest private shareholder base in the UK. HBOS employs approximately 72,000 across the group.
On 19 January 2009, HBOS became a part of the Lloyds TSB Group Plc, which is now known as Loyds Banking Group following the acquisition of HBOS.

Training: the planned and systematic modification of behaviour through learning events, programmes and instruction, which enable individuals to achieve the levels of knowledge, skill and competence needed to carry out their work effectively.
Development: the growth or realization of a persons ability and potential through the provision
