The reasons for the job skills
Knowledge of the electrical systems for preventing accidents and mistakes.
Aware of health and safety so you know what mistake you do and you can stay alert for any danger coming.
Work quickly to delay deadlines and work long hours to keep yourself going and not fall flat on the floor.
The hours and working conditions
You will be working for many hours which would be long. For film and TV, the work would continue throughout day and night hours, depending on when the film shootings will take place. For example a scene might be at 3:00am in the early morning.
Concerts and performances usually are on in the evenings. So this means you will be setting up equipment for the performance during daylight and after the show is over, depending on the length of it, you will be taking them down at night if they are long enough.
If the concerts are performed in outdoor areas, this would mean that you will be working in all weather conditions. Workers might have to work at heights on cranes. The work could also involve times away from home and some travel abroad.
The salary and other benefits from becoming a technician
It depends on how much work would be needed for a show. Also if the show is popular more equipment might be needed. So I think there would be more payment.
Skills and knowledge I will need:
I will need:
Creativity, imagination and problem-solving ability
Excellent design skills
Knowledge on costumes, history and fashion
Good attitude
Working while at pressure and meeting deadlines
Technical stuff like lighting and sound
The reasons for the job skills
Creativity, imagination and problem solving skills would be to change around where the lighting shots will take. And to make sure you know what your doing when a problem crops up if a light isn’t working or the scene positions will have to change.
You need skills on the lighting and sound to know when you will be needed for your part in a show. If you don’t take part in helping the lighting, sound etc…no one will know and the show will fall
