In the final scene, Derek is about to hear his controversial verdict. In contrast to previous scenes his family surrounds Derek. We did this to show that the family was with Derek right until the end. The judge sentences Derek’s as “guilty”. Gasps and shcok fill the excruciating period of silence as the audience’s minds dwell on the mortal sentence. One by one each family member discards from Derek’s presence. This symbolized that he was all by himself now. After the final flashback Derek repeated the line; “Im not afraid to die I have not done anything wrong “ to bring the audience back to the time at the start of the drama. He was a very enthusiastic person and always hoped for the best in the film, because of this we made sure that a few jokes were cracked during the piece. This belittled the gloomy atmosphere and showed there was hope, right until the end.
The next scene, the parents of Derek are anxiously waiting for news. The body language of them both is very tense. This
