To link the freeze and the countdown the executioner dropped to her knees quickly and suddenly. The shock from the sharpness and abruptness of the fall showed the severity and callousness of the way the life was lost. During the freeze we used levels to show status. Onlookers to the hanging were stood around the executionee looking down on her and she was on her knees. The executioner was also stood behind her to show she was surrounded and there was no way out. This also gave the effect of making her look smaller and showed she was looked down on by society.
In the second freeze frame we showed how capital punishment had evolved, therefore we used the electric chair as it had been more obviously developed by recent technology. We decided to set the characters out in the same formation (the executionee in the middle of all the other characters) to link the two still images and show that it was still just as barbaric and cruel as the killings of the past. It also had the same effect of surrounding the executionee and putting him on a chair whilst the others stood made him lower than the other characters. This showed there was no way out and made him look small to mirror his status and position in society. We had one onlooker (possibly of the victim’s of the criminal’s family) who was shouting aggressively in the countdown, which again linked to the first freeze frame where the onlookers were jeering and showed that some people in modern society still enjoy the killings. The killing distressed the other onlooker to the killing. She shouted “NOOO!” during the countdown and threw her hands towards the executionee to show she didn’t want to let go of his life. She then turned away and hid her eyes with her hands to show she couldn’t face what was happening. This contrasted with the onlookers in the first still image to show that some people in modern society do disagree with the death penalty.
Evaluation Phase
My favourite drama of the day was the Advert. We were told to convey the pros about capital punishment and show its usefulness so that countries that do not have capital punishment would be persuaded to start enforcing it.
