In the two articles I'm looking at, 'A job has been done for the farmer' and 'Copper, living proof that hunt saboteurs save lives', there are contrasting views. The first article I am looking at is 'Copper, living proof that hunt saboteurs save lives' which is written in leaflet form by other hunt saboteurs. They wrote this article to persuade the public that fox hunting is cruel and that it should be banned. The second article is an interview with a fox hunting supporter which was published in the Guardian newspaper. This article isn't as bold as the first but is still persuasive.
The article about Copper, a fox saved by a hunt saboteur from hounds that would have 'with no doubt riped the poor, helpless fox apart', explains you could save the life of an animal by not using violence but just using your natural instincts. In this case Andy, the anti- hunt campaigner 'dives over the rabbit hole whilst getting snapped at by vicious hounds'. This is very vivid language that makes the reader believe that Andy is very brave. The picture that is created by the reader of Andy laying in the hole covering the 'exhausted animal ... ... no bigger than a terrier dog', is a very emotive picture. It appeals to the reader's concern for other living things. If people that already did not support fox hunting read this article they may believe that they could do something similar to what Andy did.
In comparison the article, 'A job has been done for the farmer' the writer is trying to show the reader that hunting is needed by the rural community. It does not use strongly argumentative language but has been put forward in a formal and calm manner. The writer explains their point of view in a manner that allows the reader to make their own opinions. The writer uses more reassuring language to comfort the reader in to believing their point of view. If the reader is shouted at through the text the reader is less likely to understand the argument that the text is putting forward.
The first article is mainly comprised of Andy's quotes, which gives the effect that the article is backed up by eye witnesses to make the story more believable than if someone was just reporting what had happened. It
