back years before Romeo and Juliet were born. Though the feud still continues as neither family is prepared to forgive and forget the past. The death of Mercutio in Act3 Scene1 portrays how feuds might harm the lives of innocent people. However this setting can be relevant to the 1590s, and if we want to make the feud relevant nowadays we must change the settings.
I believe that the feud between Palestinians and Israelis would be relevant to the modern audience. Where the Montague is a Palestinian family and the Capulet is an Israeli family who live in the city of Jerusalem. I think that a shopping centre in Jerusalem would be the best place to start Act3 Scene1 with, because we know that the weather in that day is hot and people like to go shopping in such weathers.
The set of this scene should portray the theme of violence and the feud of the two families. This feud can be shown on the stage by having Palestinian flag in the right side of the stage and the Israeli flag in the left side of the stage. Thus, as the curtains goes up, I want the two flags to be in the sides to show the feud between the families, and I want two crossed swords to be placed in the middle of the background to show the violence and the feud.

Throughout this scene Tybalt encounter Mercutio and Benvolio and then asks to have a duel with Romeo, who is now secretly married to Juliet. Romeo tries not to get angered from Tybalt who is calling him a villain and Romeo tries to explain that he has a good reason to love Tybalt and that he does not wish to fight. But Mercutio get disgusted by the plea for peace and says that he will fight Tybalt. As the duel start between them Romeo tries to restore peace and split Mercutio from Tybalt, but Tybalt stabs Mercutio under Romeo’s arm and Mercutio dies. Thus Romeo feels guilty and in rage kills Tybalt before fleeing from the scene. Then the prince come to the scene and declares Romeo forever banished from the city.

Act3 scene1 has developed a sudden fatal violence, however it also emphasise love, beauty and romance, and it shows how Romeo and Juliet are living in a masculine world where conflicts are erupted by ideas of honour, pride
