Rush Hour 2

After the impressive first “Rush Hour” in 1998, the heavily anticipated Rush Hour 2 had a significant amount of poised minds to convince that the successor was the king of black/martial arts comedy.
Thanks to the successful contrasting collaboration between Chief Inspector Lee (Jackie Chan) and the definitive yet startling Cop Carter (Chris Tucker), Rush Hour 1 set its distinctive place in film history a place of which in my eyes (your ever so faithful reviewer) could never be replaced, however can Rush Hour 2 rise up to the challenge, defy its critics and prove this reviewer wrong?
Unlike the first film, Rush Hour 2 was set in three locations, La, Hong Kong and Las Vegas. This undoubtedly provided the way for yet another film of cheesy cheap shots of racism and sexist gags. However the choice of locations is slightly daunting because its really just too obvious, by that I mean its indefinitely certain that a crime stricken gang of malicious gangsters are most probable to line the streets in the money collecting countries of La and Las Vegas so there’s just no doubt that something big is going to go down? In this sequel the calm and collected Jackie Chan hosts the “seven eleven man” Chris Tucker in his native country Hong Kong. I found this very interesting and paved my boastful thoughts of prediction into uncertain expectation. Director Pete Mgrady certainly won my vote after the opening scene of the film highlights the undeniable exquisite beauty of Hong Kong and its unique street tradition; this totally cancels out the run down location of La in Rush Hour 1. Chris thinks he’s in for a relaxing stay in the gorgeous Hong Kong heat, after clocking a high profile case back in La, however like any good films things don’t tend to go plan…
Unlike the first sequel, this was Chan’s show, as the slowly but surely ageing martial arts hero and idol for many Chinese relations across the globe, took on an army with just a towel and a waste bin. Typical Jackie Chan though right? But surely he’s getting too old for this so I will give it to him…the robust Jackie has astonished this reviewer.
After being in this Job for many years, I’m quite comfortable to say, that Rush Hour 2 with its speeded up fighting scenes and the regular referral to race, certainly defied its critics,
