Personal Piece

One cold November morning I woke up earlier than I had expected. I rolled over to see my brother lightly snoring as usual and I contemplated whether to throw my duvet off as I was leaning to wards being too hot or to stay warm and toasty and attempt to go back to sleep. I chose the latter, rolled over and closed my eyes. I always felt a sense of togetherness at my grandparent’s house. They had had heron house since before I was born and I always enjoyed having it as a second home. My dad’s parents were always kind to me, with grandma Sylvia cooking the Sunday roast and always laughing and smiling at me, and then there was Grandpa. I had an odd relationship with Dennis for I was too young to stay up and see him after dinner socialising with my parents and other relatives. The only time I ever saw his true colours was on our local shoot. He used to run the shoot and even though I didn’t really know why everyone was shouting and swearing about killing a few pheasants. It was about 4 o’clock when mum came and got me and she told me that all my stuff was packed and that we were off immediately. My brother was looking unnaturally glum and quiet and I reflected on how nice the Fleming’s were and how I had taken it for granted and never really thought why. Mum told me to get in the car and I thought it
