What is the importance of Leadership in Lord of the Flies?

Leadership plays a huge role in this novel by William Golding. In general, characters need to feel a sense of security for them to live and to survive, and one of the easiest ways to accomplish this is to have a leader. At the start of the novel, Ralph is immediately named as leader. All the boys agree to this as he is born for this role. Leadership is also a huge factor because in the book, maybe Ralph is the most natural but just like real life, today, no leader can do everything he wants or need and they cannot be successful unless there are people to help. So this is where Piggy comes into action. Ralph uses his natural leading skills along with using Piggy’s best ideas to create this sense of security around the group of kids. Scene as Piggy stutters in his words and crumble under any audience then it seems like Ralph and Piggy work together, just like world leaders today who couldn’t live without their advisers. AT the beginning of the book, the “leader” seemed like quite a good name to have above your head, however at the end of the book when the naval officer arrives, Ralph instantaneously admits to being leader until he actually realises what he has said. Pg 215 “who’s boss here”, “I am said Ralph loudly” Ralph tried to take the blame from all of his other acquaintances, this is a quality that all leaders should possess. Jack however, I believe would not do this as I do not think he is a very good leader and I don’t think he would take one for the team like Ralph. Different choices and actions lead to the development of leadership qualities of both Ralph and Jack. Jack usually takes quick action, not thinking about what would happen afterwards. , If anybody actually thought about following Jack, he would have no followers, but, he is a great leader, and is able to have people under his little finger and almost has a commanding finger over them, So all the rest of them just follow the crowd. I also believe that Leadership is essential because communities thrive off leaders, but the leaders need to take initiative.
