meant many mines. It was this five-year plan that gave Stalin some support. A man called Alexei Stakhanov did a huge amount of work in a limited space of time in a mine. He became a local legend and many people looked up to him. This helped Stalin as Alexei looked up to Stalin un-bounded. This also made people think Stalin was all right as he had a policy which meant the harder you work the more you get paid, which persuaded people to work harder without complaining. There were groups formed who devoutly supported Stalin and worked as hard as they could. One was called the “Young Pioneers”. They completed huge feats and Stalin gained more support. He introduced rights for women as well and medicine and new housing and taught people to read. This was a good time for Stalin and he gained much more support fro the people who mattered.
However Stalin as still a very harsh man. He would kill anyone who disagreed with him to scare people into submission. The NKVD who were his secret police would have people ‘disappear’ if they were not doing things Stalin’s way. He had many politicians executed and assassinated as he thought they were threats to his power. These times were called the purges and there were only a few families’s who were not affected by Stalin’s wrath. He would make fake trials to have high-powered Russians killed and he killed many army leaders, as they were threats as well. Everybody in Russia was scared of him and no one dared displease him so many people would give in names of anybody just to try and get on the right side of Stalin. This caused the deaths of many innocent people. In the end no one disagreed with Stalin and no one thought for themselves everyone did as he said. Even though he had created Russia into a Superpower he had done it to the expense of millions of innocent lives. This would show that Stalin was a Dictator and that he ruled Russia as a dictator.
