1. In source A, a cartoon of Nasser, Nasser is pictured looking like a tyrant. The sheets of paper strewn around him and the fact he is ripping some up give the effect he has complete disregard for peace and any other countries. He looks mad and he is dressed in uniform with many medals, the stereotypical Military Dictator, the newspaper is comparing him to Hitler and Mussolini. Behind him there is a sheet of paper titled the Suez Canal Treaty, it has obviously bean ripped in half by Nasser and is representing the fact that he is meant to be completely ignoring every other countries plans and is just doing what he wants. This source is very biased, as it has been published in an English newspaper, this would mean it would be very anti Nasser and would defiantly picture him as the aggressor.

2. In source D Eden is stating that the reason Nasser has blocked the canal is to give him the chance of completing a campaign to expel all western powers from the middle east, he said that Egypt was trying to create satellite states like Russia. The picture of source C In truth he only blocked the canal in answer to the Anglo-French invasion. In source B Nasser is stating that the Suez Canal was built by Egyptians and so should be controlled by Egyptians. As the canal is in Egypt was built by Egyptian slaves it should be owned by Egypt, he even says that he will pay the other share holders apart from England and France, all in all he sounds quite reasonable and very unlike a tyrant. This is completely the opposite of what Eden and source D, and is also slightly more believable and reasonable.

3. An Egyptian biographer wrote source E. He would be pro Egypt and so would want to put them in a good light. He would obviously try to make Egypt look very innocent and powerful. He describes Egypt as “the strongest military power in the middle east” which of course proven by the Arabs, was not true as they swept aside the entire Egyptian ground troops in about 24hours. Also it is a well known fact that people will write more passionately about famous people that have died, he would mostly only talk about Nasser’s successes and describe him as though he was a hero. Finally the biography was written 22
