Shooting
Shooting is a very important part of your game in football. Scoring goals is what football is all about.
Power and accuracy are the main principles of shooting.
Aim to drive the ball low with the instep of your foot. To increase power, bring the kicking leg through quickly and increase your follow through. You should aim to hit the ball with your laces. Keeping your head down will help to increase your chances of hitting the target.
Try to keep shots low and aim for the corners, as this is the hardest area for the goalkeeper to save.
As well as power and accuracy, good stability, balance and posture are also needed to ensure a good strike at goal.
Drills that can help you improve your shooting are:
- Accuracy test – striking a ball, aiming for a target. (putting a cone 1yard in from each post – player should aim between post and cone).
- Conditioned game of football where the aim is to hit the post or crossbar instead of scoring.
- You start with the ball on the half way line and dribble towards the goal, meanwhile a defender starts from the goal line at the same time and his aim is to stop the attacker scoring without tackling him. The idea of this drill is to put the attacker under pressure as he shoots.
Both Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard are great strikers of the ball and have scored many goals purely because they can strike a ball well and cleanly.
Heading – football perfect model 2
Heading is also a key part of your game; it can be used in both defensive and attacking positions. In all forms of heading the ball in football, the forehead is the safest area of the head to which you should head the ball. The forehead has a big surface area and is flat so therefore it is the most effective park of the head to use. When heading you should adjust body according to the direction you want to head the ball, time your jump to perfection and always keep your eyes on the ball. As you jump, use your neck muscles to generate power. Bending your knees, arching your back and thrusting your head and body forward at the point of contact will also help to get the most power possible behind the ball. Use your arms for balance as you will be off the ground
