I have developed my motif by performing it using different limbs, directions, levels and styles. For example, near the beginning of the dance I am simply stood up performing the motif yet as the dance progresses I repeat it on the floor with the leg, using a more balletic style. I also took a sweeping movement with the right arm as I did a sideways leap, at a slower speed. I have developed my motif to show the audience the different ways that a paint brush can be used to create different brushstrokes.
My second motif is from section B (light and dark section). This motif begins in a standing position with one arm above the head. This arm then drops heavily to the floor and then is flung back in front of the body using rebound. This movement reiterates the movement of a paintbrush and is performed in different ways showing that the paint brush is painting different tones of colour/shading.
I have developed this motif by using direction and dynamics. For example, when in ‘light’ character, I perform the motif elegantly and neatly, yet when in ‘dark’ character I perform the motif with more attitude and using body pops and waves. This is to show the extreme opposite of light/dark, good/bad, and innocent/hooligan.
My final motif is from section C (silent movie section). This motif is a sequence of simple yet frantic running steps that incorporate small movements from the previous two sections.
I have developed this motif by including different movements with the arms during travelling and in between running/jumping phrases.
Generally, my movement material consists of fluent, soft movements, replicating smooth brushstrokes of art. My silent movie section (Section C) develops this by using similar movements developed using speed and focus, and is more frantic, almost like a slapstick film. This section contains travelling and jumping sequences to portray the image of comedy and rush and to add a climax. This is to show the development of a traditional technique through technology (how film has developed Chiaroscuro). Sections A and B are more contained with little travelling and focus on one’s painting on an easel, where space is limited.
