J. John, a well known theologian, praised in both Christian and Jewish communities, states that ‘I believe that for the sake of our health, our sanity, our families, our relationships, our spirituality and our society, we all need to have a Sabbath.’ God knows that many would desire not to take a day off, so He has therefore put it in His list of the Ten Commandments. It will not be removed or replaced. It is for the health and wellbeing of all humanity.
Finally, the commandment, ‘You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain’ is never to be removed or replaced. It is still applicable to the modern world and to all those who believe in El Echad. El Echad is also Elohim Kadoshim. It is for this reason that devout adherents’ of Biblical Judaism in today’s modern world will never take the name of God in vain. It is far too holy.
To sum up then, no commandment will be taken out or replaced. They are all relevant for devout disciples of El Yisrael in today’s modern world. If no one else wishes to follow them, that is their choice; God gave each one free will. Fundamentally, the Ten Commandments are there for the benefit of all humanity. There cannot be one list of commands with God and one list without God. As, mentioned earlier, God is central to the commandments and one cannot obey them fully without HaBoray being exalted above all things in the life of the individual.
