Police

Problem solving is an integral component of the philosophy of community policing. The problem solving approach is a methodical process for reducing the impact of crime and disorder problems in the community. A day to day example of police problem solving is suppose the police find them selves responding several times a day to calls from a neighbourhood near a local high school, where they need to disperse disorderly youths and stop acts of violence. Under the incident model police would dispatch an officer to the scene and he would then take action and file a report. In itself this will do little to resolve the long term problems. Using problem skills the police would collect additional information, they might survey residents, analyze the time of day when incidents occurred, examine the schools attendance regulations, assess the availability of after school activities or evaluate characteristics of the environment. Hopefully after all this research the problem is solved

We recognize that the best way to fight fires is to prevent them from ever happening. So one of the fire-fighters roles is to go out to the public and educate them on fire prevention they do these by going to expect buildings and examining the best escape routes, looking for hazards that may cause a fire to occur and check safety equipment such as fire alarms and how to evacuate the public.
