A theory is a set of ideas that helps to explain what something happens or happened in a particular way, and to predict likely outcomes in the future. Theories are based on evidence and reasoning, but have not yet been proved convincingly.
Theories can be an argument if they offer reasons and conclusions and try to convince or influenced. But an arguments are not always theories, for instance, the argument for going market is based on two reasons, but does not present a theory. example; we know that you are keen to return home as soon as possible, but it would be a good idea to go to the shops first. We need to buy a present for Kelly’s birthday, and we also need to get some food for tonight. The word argument is means by discussion or findings on a certain point of view, an argument presents the reasons to support your position on you point of view. If other people accept that reason, they are more likely to be persuaded to your point of view.
To find out that what an argument is, we should consider that,
What is the main point of producing this article or essay?
What is the main message that the writer is trying to convey?
What does the writer or author want me to accept or believe?
What reasons the writer is giving to support his position on his point of view?
The argument may be very complicated or difficult and it can take time to clarify the reasoning through careful analysis and close reading or observation. The author may present the information with lack of evidence, with unreasonable arguments or wrong conclusions.
In critical thinking ,it is important to read the written piece of work critically to identify what are the reasonable assumptions have been made by the writer, this can depend on the text, most arguments consists on the assumptions, infact, the authors wants readers to accept something rather then proving it. it would enables you to consider many common type of flaws that can occur, such as confusing cause and effect, failing to meet necessary conditions, attacking the character of a person rather then evaluating their reasoning. Creating misperception and using emotive language. In critical reading it is expected that great efforts have been made by the writer about the evidence given to support the assumptions or claim.
